how is authenticity evaluated and assessed in a hybrid intercultural shakespeare performance the yohangza theatre company's a midsummer night's dream, staged as part of the 2012 globe-to-globe festival, typifies intercultural hybridity and challenges our understanding of shakespeare, originality and authenticity by highlighting different engagements with shakespearean performativity. this production demonstrates how the performativity of authenticity exposes the complex and often complicated processes of producing and presenting shakespeare and cultural identities on an intercultural stage. the analysis of yohangza's dream is aimed at interrogating and reconceptualising existing notions of authenticity. the study of authenticity in this korean shakespeare production aims to not only illustrate how authenticity functions, but what it means in and to intercultural performance.
the racial integration of u.s. professional baseball has been hailed a watershed moment for not just in sports but also in the quest for civil rights in u. society. scholars and public intellectuals have long debated the impact that integration had on black communities, specifically on the toll that integration had on black institutions formed during era of jim crow segregation. just the same, many have praised jackie robinson and brach rickey as the (lone) heroes of baseballs racial saga. this course aims to complicate these matters by examining the biographies of (other) figures involved in the integration of baseball as a means to explore integration at an individual level, at the institutional level (organized baseball), and at the societal level. we will therefore consider integrations impact beyond black and white along with also studying the story of women in professional baseball. course readings will include secondary source readings and primary source materials to discuss integration stories. requirements include regular attendance and active participation in seminar sessions, writing several response papers (3-5 pages) and completing an original research paper (20-25 pages).
themes of obsession and obsession with obsession are explored in white night. the first half of the movie details the relationship of mi-ho (son ye-jin) and yo-han (go soo) over their parents death. the main conflict is that mi-ho wants to avenge her parents death and eliminate all those who are connected to her parents death, but yo-han doesn't want to. mi-ho's parents were killed by a gang that was led by a man named chae-yeol, and he was hired to kill mi-ho's parents by the daughters college friend and mi-ho's boyfriend, chae-min (kim tae-hee). yo-han believes that the entire ordeal was a result of mi-ho's parents involvement with chae-min, which he believes was their downfall. the second half of the movie is about a couple who are asked by their friend to murder chae-yeol. while the first half of the movie is told through the pov of mi-ho and yo-han, the second half of the movie is told through the pov of the two murderers. their pov is dark and nightmarish, and the question of whether or not they kill chae-yeol is a moral dilemma that they struggle with. the film is filled with twists and turns that constantly keep the viewers attention, and the second half of the movie is particularly challenging. for the first half of the film, the audience is given the answers to some of the questions it asks. however, in the second half, the audience is forced to search for the answers to the questions it asks. white night is a unique and challenging film. it is one of the most beautiful and enigmatic films i have ever seen, and the mix of the film's visuals and narrative is one of the most interesting pairings i've experienced. the cinematography is stunning, the acting is phenomenal, and the filmmaking is flawless. the film is loaded with beautiful and shocking imagery, but the story is one that is difficult to describe. it's an experience that is dark, beautiful, and absolutely fascinating. the film is rated r for strong sexuality, some drug use, and language. if you are a fan of director kim jee-woon, be sure to catch this one. its one of the best films that ive seen in a long time. 5ec8ef588b
