This is a bit tricky. I tried many solution, including adding extension=php_openssl.dll to the php.ini file on the Apache server(s) which can help for such a problem. Some of those fixes were actually useful, and worked. When they didnt, I tried other fixes. Here is another solution for the problem:
replace C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.5.28 and C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.28\php.ini with C:\Program Files\WampServer\bin\php. This fixed it (after restarting Apache).
Voila!!!!!!! All of the extensions I needed were already in place. Some were very nice to have. This package comes with phpmyadmin installed and ready to go, with two user accounts. All of this was configured for me, no directions were needed. I was able to access my server from anywhere (including other computers).
To put this in perspective, when I was installing and configuring my php5.3.x, I spent 20 hours on my own. This is how it is documented on the WampServer website. Sure, its a lot of time, but at least you know exactly what to do. If only the project had not been so time consuming!
The benefit of a WAMP installation is that you can easily update the binaries on the server. It does the job for you. If you have Windows 8, you should be able to just reinstall WAMP, and get the latest version ( php 5.5.x). If you have Windows 7, there should be an option to upgrade. If you have some problem updating, there is a short summary on how to do it on WampServer. You can also get the latest build of WAMP. If you build it yourself, you can even get a special build that integrates SQLite support into wampserver.
Note that you will have to enable the php_mysql.dll extension in the php.ini file of the server and in the php script. Also, in order to connect to the database using PDO, you will need the following extension: php_pdo_mysql.dll. You have to uncomment the following lines: This means, when you install PHP 5.6.14 or 5.15, this directory ext will be created in your WAMP folder. You can find the file php.ini in the following path in your WAMP: C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.14\php.ini Step 3: Upload the C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.4.4\bin\httpd.exe file to your desktop, double-click it, and then upload it to C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.4\bin in the system path.
