Taiko no Tatsujin is a frantic game, and it plays like a hybrid between Dance Dance Revolution and Rock Band, which is a genre built around doing awesome dance moves with music. Youll see players glide across a metal track, hop on 3D pipe-like platforms, give hips and knees a shake along with a variety of other dance moves to complete each track, and its certainly a unique experience, one that will hopefully appeal to a broad range of players and become as integral a part of their Switch dongle as Mario and Zelda have become.

Players will have to take into account that Taiko no Tatsujin is not a game for the faint-hearted. Youre going to have to get out there and work hard to achieve the high scores you need to unlock the next chapters, because if youre not careful your limbs could be looking at a well-deserved overhaul. Theres also the nuance involved with Taiko that demands the deftest of fingers. Especially when you consider that youre reading this while youre playing the game, youll need to be standing up, a chair is not recommended, and a good pair of dancing shoes is going to be a required accessory. The possibilities for error are enormous, and if youre not careful, you could be sweating a little liquid mooonga out through your pores and you wont even know!

Personally, I like Taiko no Tatsujin better than Taiko Drum Master (despite how great that game is, you also need to factor in how much I love rhythm games in general), but these two games fit any rhythm player very well. As is the case with Taiko Drum Master before it, this is a game that does Taiko drumming very well. The first thing we want to mention is the visual design of Taiko: Blue Rhythm Pop. From its colorful, stylized characters, to its bright world backgrounds, there is a lot of character-driven design on display in every space. Its a lovely-looking game from beginning to end, and although this is a freemium title, theres not a dime of premium currency to spend on, so everything is in the main game. Another nice touch that helps Taiko make a lasting impression is its charming animations. There are obviously no characters walking around that you can interact with, but the music and sound effects could almost be anthropomorphic. Theres a lot of character development in a few short sequences and it really makes the game stand out in its class. In fact, if youre into the point-and-click adventures, the game also has a point-and-click interface, which you can use to interact with the environment. Youll find this feature in just about all the other genres in addition to Taiko, though, so its good to know that this is also present in this game. Theres even a few mini-games that are similar to how some Point-and-Click games work. Taiko no Tatsujin is definitely not an easy game, but it doesnt punish you for falling short of perfection and itll never make you feel guilty for laughing as you knock over many an opponent in this game of life and death. 5ec8ef588b
