Peterson have developed an amazing app for both iPads and iPhones that really does check your intonation and tune your guitar or bass with amazing accuracy. It will change the way you tune your gear, its a cheap price (approx. <15) to buy and is an app that you could use at home or on the road (and avoid spending a lot of money on hardware tuners). Its just as good as the hardware it replaces and is worth the money, hell, its worth the money anyway, just look at the price of the strobo soft at Amazon.

Ive used the tuner for a few days now, and its incredible, except when your guitar is out of tune!

StroboSoft has a great interface that is simple to use. A typical request from a musician is that the software is simple and straightforward to use. From my experience, its not just in strobe tuners where this is the case.

My first request was simple: to be able to tune my guitar and bass to a standard E-A-D-G scale. I did this by adjusting my guitar plug in on my custom rig. At the time, the software didnt have an option to do this, however at another time I asked for a feature to do this as I can do with my hardware tuners. Their response was to build the feature.

Now that Ive found the feature, I can say that its fast and simple to use. Every time I use StroboSoft, I feel that Ive just gotten a new toy. Ive had the experience of purchasing hardware strobe tuners for years, but it just doesnt have the soul like the ones I have used with my iPhone. To use the software, I set the device up in my custom rig and its ready to go. If I need to, I can use any of the settings (described below) to tune the first string on my guitar to the EADG scale.

the istrobosoft application comes with two free apps. the first is istrobosoft notebook, which is essentially a virtual strobe tuner for stringed instruments. the second is istrobosoft guitar, which is a virtual strobe tuner for guitar. i loaded both onto my ipod touch and began to mess with them. since i play guitar, i started with the guitar app, although the notebook app works with strings as well. first up is istrobosoft notebook. it works with any stringed instrument, but i tested it out with a guitar and a mandolin. i started by selecting the guitar on the main screen and pressing the + button to add it to the catalog. i then went back to the main screen and selected the guitar using the app’s search box. next, i looked at the guitar’s tuning options. the “notes” option in istrobosoft guitar is a straight analog equivalent of what you see in the guitar’s tuning menu. you can choose what octaves, note names, and stringed instruments you want to tune. it gives you a great idea of what the guitar will sound like when you’re done tuning it up. in the end, i had to get out my guitar’s manual and do a little math to split the strings down the bridge. what’s nice is that istrobosoft offers the ability to open the manual in another window while you’re in the app. that way you can still play and tune. you can even use the manual to check your work and make sure you’re doing the math right. while i didn’t do it, you could have the app adjust the tuning for you. its actually pretty simple to use. its easy to figure out and works. i would even say that its probably easier than my other tuners. just plug your guitar into the istrobosoft app, hit the record button, and start tuning. its pretty easy to just hit the tuner with your foot and get the feedback in real time. no more thinking or guessing what the note is, its just there. its also super accurate. and it just works in a pinch for these guys. they use it at their gigs, and it works great for them. i would recommend this tuner to anyone looking for a portable tuner that works and is super easy to use. it has that for a reason. 5ec8ef588b
