if you are an individual user with an individual license, you can use the online activation tool to activate the license. or you can manually follow the methods we outline here. use the free, online activation tool to be sure you have the correct license number. then go to: windows activation
open the online activation tool to activate your license.
click activate within the activation utility. this will update your license to the correct version. click apply to the new version and wait until the software is installed. click done when done to go back to the activation tool.
select install new license.
click add and enter your solidworks serial number in the license key box. check the box that says enable this install if there is a problem. wait for the software to install. click install.
wait until it completes the install. once complete, close the program and go to solidworks and open your single license folder. locate the install folder of the license to be installed. find the install folder of your license and right click on the install folder. select extract to folder.
select the software directory in which you want to install the license. select a location for the new software directory (such as the desktop). make sure you use the correct drive letter.
