You're a nigger." "And what is a nigger?" "A nigger is a very wicked evil sadistic creature." "How do you know?" "I'm a nigger." "I didn't know." "Shut up!" I could hear him pacing back and forth in the dark... "We'll go on a safari tomorrow, nigger." "Yes, sir." I met a man Who said he was wise He told me I should live my life I think he was a little high I could see his crazy eyes He didn't see me cry I could hear his crazy laughter He just loved to laugh I met a man Who laughed like a fish He laughed at my pain He laughed when I cried I met a man He laughed at my tears He laughed when I died I met a man Who laughed like a mother He laughed at my pain He laughed when I cried I met a man He laughed at my tears He laughed when I died He laughed when I died He laughed when I died" -Nina Simone Latest version (2.1) now available from: You need to click the download link at the bottom of the page to download the file. The easiest to assemble "Tuffa tuffa" style helmet. I'm not sure if the steel seam lacing you mention is available or in stock but I'm sure you can pick it up easily. The elasticated chin strap is a nice addition but it may be worth seeing if the chin strap that came with your helmet or your old helmet can be re-purposed. You can also replace the Lacing with an elastic band but it may add a bit of weight to the helmet. I've gone the backpacking route with my helmets for many years. There are a few things I wish I had done differently: 1. Lacing. 2. Elasticated chin strap and gear loops. 3. Thicker weave material for the top of the helmet. 4. Helmet bag. 5. I really like the feature of closing the vents without having to flip up the chin strap. I suppose the point I want to make is that I'm an engineer, an engineer who grew up in the bush, and a Brit, and some of the things I've learnt or discovered about safety are the things that haven't been included in this helmet. It's a bit more expensive than most backpacking helmets but that's what makes it worth it. I would look at the how to build a pith helmet post. I think a lot of the comments are due to the helmet not being designed to be worn in an environment which is totally different to that of what you see on the top of a person's head. If you had seen this first before building then a lot of the issues mentioned in this thread could have been avoided, plus you wouldn't have ended up with such a complex pith. I think there's also a question of whether its a better helmet to be more weighty than to be lighter. For me, I would have opted for a helmet in which all the features were there, but could be adapted to be lighter. The initial pith helmet building experience is a good example of this. I had to spend about 10 hours of my time designing and making a pith that would, on it's own terms, be light weight, look good and be very safe when worn in it's environment. I also spent a lot of time with the seam and lacing. On that particular helmet the general design and purpose of the helmet is not too far from the pith helmet that many people are familiar with, and some people may like it, but I think if you actually look at it, then a lot of people who are starting out in this hobby will find it too complicated. I am a professional engineer and I can tell you that the components and design of the original pith helmet are not too far off from what you would need to design in engineering terms.
