nakamichi is also the author of the pattern magic book “pattern magic”. however, this book is still in the process of being finished. despite the french edition of this book is already available, there is still no english version so far. it is also very important for nakamichi to finish writing this book as soon as possible. the format in which she wants to write the pattern is stitched with a bookbinding technique. if she is asked about this technique, nakamichi replied that she is not very familiar with this technique. so, i cannot tell you anything about the format in which this book will look like.
pattern magic is a series of sewing pattern books published by kadokawa shoten. they're specifically designed for fashion designers, and it's a comprehensive collection of sewing pattern styles. as the name suggests, the information presented is primarily on sewing patterns, but it also covers knitting and knotted/beaded jewelry. i have a fairly large collection of these books, although i usually only use them for historical research. this book doesn't feel like the vast resource for sewing patterns that i've come to know from the past, but it definitely still has some value for the modern sewist. what i found most interesting about the book is the overall style and presentation. this book is based on real life style sewing patterns and presents it as a reference book, which is where i think it really shines.the author was inspired by his time living in the garment district in japan, where the workers developed their own style of sewing, and eventually passed it down to his daughters. the book consists of 170 pages of essays on the various pattern types, such as circle, pleats, overlapped seams, etc. this book is targeted more at the intermediate/advanced sewist. although it provides step-by-step instructions for most of the projects, some are just not possible to outline in words. the only problem i had with this book is that i really wanted to use it for reference, but there are parts where you really need to see the pattern in order to understand the instructions. also, some of the projects just seem way too difficult for someone who is more of a beginner. i'd suggest if you're just starting out, there's lots of great information in other books, particularly making people's garments, and secrets of fashion, which really helps to teach you about the basics of sewing and the design process. 5ec8ef588b
