if the price of oil goes down with lower supply i think the price of everything else will have to go down too. the problem with low price is supply and demand are not cooperating. so yes, the oil producing nations are shorting the oil inventories. however, the oil using nations are using up their production too quick, that is why opec can’t increase supply. if people hold back on consuming oil, then this might increase supply.
only if you increase supply will the price come down. they wont increase supply unless you make it worth their while. what happens when we discover these new resources in the north sea in the 70s that allow us to go to 300 bar for both oil and gas. that means the price can go to 4 or 5 hundred dollars for every barrel of oil. this is what you wont see for 50 years.

as for gas, it is already dropping $1 a gallon in some places. it will hit zero as the dollar runs down. they can’t run it down because they are in zirp. their plan was to go to zero and then back up and it failed. the only reason they go from 3 to 0 in a short period of time was because they were timing when they flipped the switch. do you really think that china wants a dollar that is worth a third of its worth today? it is only worth a third of what it is today because the dollar is falling.

(i am currently a graduate student in the north bay area. i too have concerns about the bay area's transport situation). bart is, unfortunately, a publicly-owned bus and rail system in san francisco, for a good reason. it serves too many people to maintain its own separate bus and rail lines for each mode, especially when buses have to be used as often as they do. as for caltrain, its much better than bart, but not great. caltrain is a privately-owned and operated passenger rail system, owned by a private corporation, like the port authority of new york and new jersey. it's part of the same publicly-owned corporation that operates bart. bart is owned by, and operated under contract by, the same privately-held corporation that owns caltrain, though the two agencies are managed separately. and, in any case, bart is vastly superior in most respects. 5ec8ef588b
