Madness Discography (1979 2005) [mp3@VBR]

Griffin's Eyeis the sixth album by the English progressive rock band Camel, released in July 1977 on Gama Records. This was the first album to feature vocalist/bassist Andy Ward. Griffin's Eye had a more sophisticated sound than its predecessor Moonmadness due to the use of sound effects and lavish musical arrangements. [2]

Produced by the group's then manager, Mike Bowness, Moonmadness was released in March 1976 on Decca Records. The album included the band's most successful single, "The Snow Goose". Lyrically, the album incorporates concepts of the band's music in a way unlike most rock albums.

Camel released Moonmadness in March 1976 on Decca and Gama Records. The album included the band's most successful single, "The Snow Goose" ; a follow-up, "Camel's Camel", was issued in May. In April 1978, the group released their final album, the instrumental and ambitious, Kicks. The album's ambitious, free-form structure would have been much harder to follow and record than their previous albums.

In the spring of 1977, Madness replaced Concrete Jungle as their live UK chart-topper, spending seven weeks on the UK album chart in the wake of the release of its smash hit hit single "The Rise And Fall". Initially titled Rise And Fall, the song was released as a single in the UK on 1 August 1977, ahead of the album's release. The B-side was the title track. The UK single charted at number 3 in the UK singles chart. In the US, the album was released on 28 September 1977 by Sire Records and was produced by Steve Lillywhite. Rise And Fall first reached the top 10 in the UK, peaking at #7. At the time, only My Way by Frank Sinatra had spent more time on the UK album chart.

The self-described "concept album" is loosely based on the personalities of the band members. It opens with a track about guitarist/founder Peter Bardens called "Allyuh to Wicked M.U.V", which is a play on the motto of the band's fanclub, and songs about bassist Doug Ferguson based on the Star Wars character Jabba the Hutt (i.e. "Ferguson Wants Jam") and the soundtrack of the film of the same name. Next up is a re-recording of the group's first hit, "Enjoy Yourself", with guest vocals from vocalist Joolz. "Skint Fingers", a song about bassist Andy Ward and drummer Terry Bozzio, is followed by Peter and the Ox's "The Bill". Finally, singer/keyboardist Mark Feltham makes an appearance on "Skibox and the Invisible", a song about the group's pet cat. As the band referred to their album in 1977, "Madness", the concept continues in "Mooonmadness", which is a single edit of "Moonmadness". The album closes with a cover version of the Clash's "Train in Vain". In October 1976, Madness released their critically acclaimed fifth studio albumDon't Look Back (pioneered by the song of the same name) and quickly gained an international following. Dominating the UK charts and selling over 2.5 million copies in the UK alone, the album became the group's first UK number one and reached double platinum. In the US, the group's popularity grew exponentially with their new single becoming their first Hot 100 entry in January 1977.
