Plot
A young climber named Peter Garrett is attempting to climb K2, the second highest mountain in the world, with a fellow climber and guide named Randall. Peter's sister, Danielle, is also attempting to climb K2, but because of a personal situation, she is not allowed to contact her family until she has completed the climb. Peter and Randall are accompanied by Chris, a local guide who is very enthusiastic, and a young Sherpa named Pasang, who is the assistant of Chris.
The four climb the Himalayas and finally reach the summit of K2. After a conversation with Chris, Peter decides that he wants to continue the attempt to climb K2 after Danielle, while Randall decides to return to the United States for some time.
At the summit, Peter and Chris celebrate with the other climbers. Pasang tells Peter that he should consider a way home because the weather is deteriorating. When Peter is about to do so, he hears a loud noise and turns around to see Randall lying unconscious on the ground. He and Chris try to rouse Randall, but after realizing that he is dead, they decide to leave him on the summit. Chris then breaks down and tells Peter that Randall had a heart attack during the climb. Peter is shocked and tries to find some way to help Chris.
