Unlike the popular graphics editor GIMP, Photoshop supports layers and images that have multiple layers. That's important if you want to, for instance, layer a background in a layer beneath a picture you're painting or image you're blending. Be careful with Photoshop's layer features. If you make a mistake, it's hard to get back to earlier layers — and mistakes might not show up until a later printing or scanning. Photoshop is a graphic editor, not a photo editor Photoshop can save and print at a variety of sizes and orientations, and it has powerful file format conversion tools. The important thing to understand is that Photoshop isn't used to edit photos. It's used to edit raster images such as drawings and photographs. Photoshop also has a long line of extensions that enable you to add a great deal of additional functionality to the program. For example, the Liquify Filters add many features that enable you to manipulate shapes and an image's edges in ways you may have never thought possible. You can also add lots of different artistic and creative effects to an image with the plug-ins like Watercolor, Poster, B&W, and so on. Photoshop offers a separate feature for working with layers to make layers much more powerful than what you can do in GIMP. We talk more about layers in the next chapter. The primary reasons people use Photoshop include the following: No other image editing program offers the power of Photoshop and all its extensions. Photoshop offers the capability of working with layers. Layers give you the ability to work on your images as separate units, which is a feature not found in the likes of Corel PHOTO-PAINT or other popular raster image editors. Professionals use Photoshop because it supports layers and advanced editing. Students use it because it supports an amazing array of features that don't always make sense on the surface. We discuss layers in depth in Chapter 16. Multiple people have access to the same file (like desktop publishing software) You may use Photoshop for sharing individual images on the Web, like you might use a graphics program like Corel Draw or Paint Shop Pro for that purpose. However, this feature is primarily used by graphic artists for publication. Photoshop also provides access to the entire photo library when it's running as a Windows program, which is terrific when you're working on a team project. It's official: After many rumors and speculations, Tesla has officially launched the Model Y. A collaboration with its big German rival, it will sit in the middle between the Model 3 and the Model S/X, measuring around six feet long. A large pickup version is in the offing as well. Model Y: Competitor to Tesla's Model 3 Tesla CEO Elon Musk sat down with CNBC's Becky Quick on Tuesday to talk about the big new vehicle and why he decided to go ahead with it. He said that it was a combination of price and capacity. "This is the cheapest, smallest, most efficient Roadster-like sports car," Musk said. "And it has crazy range of over 400 miles per charge, two and a half times the range of the Model 3." While it won't beat the range of the Model 3, Musk said the timing made it a priority. "This is an electric car that's going to go to the moon and Mars," Musk said. "And what matters is not whether it can beat the Model 3 on paper or not, but whether it can beat it in in the real-world, down the road." The new car comes with two drive units, one for high-speed road trips and the other for "everyday driving." A German large pickup is also part of the plans. Musk showed off a prototype of the truck in China in 2016, but the company never announced its plans to launch the vehicle. The truck is currently on the schedule for sometime in 2019. Filling the gap With the new car, Musk is filling a gap in the Tesla lineup between the high-priced Model S, and the low-priced Model 3. By lowering prices, Tesla is able to make the Model 3 much more affordable. "People are willing to pay a lot less for a car than they are for a house. So this is a car that can replace a $100,000 Model 3 with a $40,000 Model Y," Musk said. Until now, Tesla had only sold expensive versions of its cars. While the Model S costs about $75,000 and the Model X costs at least $100,000, the new Model Y will come in at a price point of about $50,000. Indium oxide is a well-known material and is used as a transparent electrode material which is necessary for liquid crystal displays and the like. Some metal oxides have semiconductor characteristics. Examples of such metal oxides having semiconductor characteristics include tungsten oxide, tin oxide, indium oxide, zinc oxide, and the like. A thin film transistor in which a channel formation region is formed using such metal oxides is known (Patent Documents 1 and 2). A transistor including an oxide semiconductor can achieve high electron mobility. Because a transistor including an oxide semiconductor can be formed over a glass substrate and thus can be applied to a display device or the like, it has been expected to develop the transistor including an oxide semiconductor for use as switching elements of pixel transistors in display devices. It has been pointed out, however, that the transistor including an oxide semiconductor has high resistance. There is a need to reduce the high resistance of a transistor including an oxide semiconductor to secure high electron mobility.
