FWIW my experience with LR4 was very positive. I don’t think that there are any significant issues with LR5 performance.
It’s very good, and works well in 64 bit mode, including for PSD files. It’s kind of misleading because it still looks like it’s a 32 bit program but it works. The only issue I had was not having a 32-bit version of the Intel Processor architecture so it could not read my old PSD files. But I needed them in a hurry when I converted them to PDF and the processor was very sluggish. LR never closed when it was trying to read the files. So I had to convert to PDF, open the PSD file in LR, re-save, then close and reopen the PSD file. As long as I had a decent handful of graphics tools the document worked brilliantly. I ended up opening the files on a Windows partition, but that didn’t increase the speed.
