With reference to video or display in particular, the capability to do things like remove blemishes or correct skewing is just outstanding. There are a few alternatives that can beat the best SSM in Photoshop, but certainly not by much. The problem is that Photoshop evolves at a terrific pace, and that’s a double-edged sword. Its UI allows you to do very well what it’s supposed to do, but it also means adding features, even ones that might not have seemed necessary or even useful at first, brings a whole new set of problems, not least of which is compatibility with older software and hardware. I’ve never been able to get Photoshop to run comfortably on an old Mac that doesn’t have Snow Leopard, even if I paid an absolute fortune. I’ve had more than one top client drag me into outright arguments over whether the software is really worth the cost, and frankly when I have to say no it’s hard to keep a straight face.
