This comic pairing of four chaps and their amatory antics is most reliably dispiriting at the hour. At one point the foursome is out for the evening on a double date on a boat. It is an amusing sequence that was going to be funnier if one of the guests in the scenario had had a penis. The situation devolves into a farcical, prurient farce.
Come on guys, it's a slapstick comic. You don't get this kind of thing in real life. Apart from Dhamaal, the other guys are Raja Brar, Hrishikesh Joshi, Rishi Kapoor and Govind Namdev. They are four friends who bond over the two words Dhamaal and Kamaal, which loosely translates as "to love and to work". They move to a small town where they play various games in order to earn money. At the same time, they fall in love and begin a series of comical mishaps.
The four characters who are worthless means of no use are the funny people from Dhamaal Roy (Ritesh Deshmukh), Adi (Arshad Warsi), Manav (Jaaved Jaaferi) and Boman (Aashish Chaudhry) who have come back once more in this movie! These four characters are till now as stupid and idiot as they were in their previous film. They do not believe in hard work and want to live an easy life and get everything without doing anything. However, they are experts in telling lies and this is the only job they have done till now and continue doing further.
There are differences between Dhamaal and Double Dhamaal of course. And you will be comparing both the films obviously. Dhamaal was a mark in its own as it is a successful comedy movie without any heroins. Double Dhamaal have two heroins. Double Dhamaal have several lines which leads to double meaning, which is now a days being common in movies. There are very few movies which are so neat and clean that you can enjoy them with the family. Some movies are exactly opposite to the same. Double Dhamaal is somewhere in between.
You can tell that the two directors - Ramesh Sippy and Anurag Kashyap - are trying very hard to distance themselves from the first Dhamaal. They don't want to be lumped in with the rest of the 'Dhamaal' series, which is the only similarity between the two. They have re-created a little world of their own in the hinterland of Uttar Pradesh. And they do take some liberties with the original story. There is a barely-there "porn" scene which has been expurgated from the Hindi version, and the Central Asian woman has a few more lines to say. But it mostly looks like a clone of the first. At least they have kept the music. And for once, the songs do exactly what they are supposed to. They fit the context - the hijacking of a cop car, the fight between the villains and the police officers, the battle between the main characters and their assorted henchmen. But even as they strip away the elements that had made Dhamaal the first Dhamaal memorable, they keep the core of a successful genre-film. The traditional song-and-dance sequences (however, the choreographer has upped his game and the dances are better), the over-the-top fight choreography, the occasional monologue (the funniest one belongs to Datta Phoonjal), the excellent villain (played by Sanjay Dutt), the main cast - all are there, and it's all tweaked for modern audiences. The film comes to a close on a very happy note. This film is for those who like to see something different from the usual commercial cinema and if you are a fan of Bollywood's street play comedy you will certainly enjoy the epically funny double-nonsense. 5ec8ef588b
