No. 4,631,099 results in an O-ring having a bicomponent collar having a hardness less than that of the surrounding material, the method is complicated and can be prone to material voiding. Voids can occur in the bicomponent collar when some of the hardenable resin is drawn away from the collar as the first collar is cooled. The method has also proven to be difficult to control. That is, the process window for the process is narrow. If the first collar is cooled to a temperature that causes too great a draw-away of the bicomponent resin from the collar, the second collar will not have sufficient hardness to adequately seal.
