from a genre point of view, the film belongs to the humour-filled family romance category. aside from that, it's a pretty ordinary kiddie film. the film has a gratifyingly strong message - kids are innocent and are to be protected. the message is put across quite effectively, but it lacks punch. the characters are disjointed. and the villain simply doesn't instill fear. the only people who manage to make a big impression are jackie shroff and reshma. in an already weak screenplay, they perform remarkably well in a fairly low budget film. just don't take your kids to see it. they'll just get bored. also take note that it is not a dubbed version.

soon they were inseparable friends. they were even enrolled in the pack of wolves along with an anteater named bunty, a bear named gazal, a leopard named leo and a chameleon called harry. one day, they heard that there were traces of a big tiger, sarvan, who had killed many animals in the forest and so they decided to go catch him along with the help of their old leader. but it turned out that when it came to chasing the big predators, bhoot and friends would lose out to the other pack members. what bhoot and friends felt was quite similar to the dog, who didn't know that if he was raised in the home he would chase a cat one day, which would cause the dog to lose his respect as well as his life. this is why bhoot and friends were separated from their pack and had to go it alone.

while out on a hunt, they hear the news that sarvan had been killed by another pack member, chacha tiger. they were really saddened as all of them had formed a bond with chacha tiger. but now they must find a new leader to protect themselves. so they went back to the pack's den where they had met chacha tiger and were told that he was missing. they had a feeling that he had been chased away by the new leader, that's why they decided to set out on a journey to find the new leader.

to be honest, by the time the movie starts, you have already forgotten all the hype being built around this movie and therefore, you really do have to go by the punch-line itself - how bhoot and friends is created. and the film drags in that section. this is actually the most expensive independent kid's film made in india, and the movie becomes more of a kids adventure fiction then a thriller. the spoken dialogues - notably the serial dialogues - are very awkward and idiotic. the movie could have been better with more action sequences and fewer slow paced dramatic segments. the climactic scene of the film - when choo-choo-choo trains are put to flames in an abandoned garden, is a little 'trainspotting' and borderline 'lo-turn'. the story is complicated and archaic, and the standard of fights is really flat. typical choo-choo trains [an entire train is held in suspended animation without anyone noticing] are a well known trope. also, beware of the'mulch doll' which looks like a half-melted plastic soft toy that exists in a world where there are no plastics. it is the most stupid creature- not quite a dinosaur, not quite an alien, not quite an ordinary living being. there are too many jokes, farcical action sequences and one-liners [there are literally a hundred of them] that seem forced. there is one uncle [played by laxmikant berde] who acts as an idiot for no reason other than that of getting laughs and being ignored by the kids. and oh yes, there is a song by ranjit barot which is supposed to be a hit, but it simply doesn't fit the timing. despite its flaws, bhoot and friends is far from being your average hack-job. bhoot unkle might be the worst kid's movie of 2006, but kittu's bhoot and friends is the best. the main draw of this film is its perfect balance of action, comedy and drama - what can i say, the kids are really good. if you get the opportunity to watch this movie [i know, very unlikely], you definitely must give it a try. you won't be disappointed. 5ec8ef588b
