The present invention relates to a fuel cell system and a control method therefor, in particular, to a fuel cell system that drives a plurality of fuel cells connected in series to generate electric power, and a control method for the system.
Description of the Related Art
Vehicles such as automobiles and the like usually include a battery as a power supply to start the vehicle by an internal combustion engine, to activate an air conditioner, and to supply a power to an operation instrument. A power generated by the internal combustion engine is converted to a predetermined voltage by a battery, and further converted to a DC voltage by a fuel cell, after which the DC voltage is boosted to a predetermined voltage by a DC-DC converter. The DC voltage is supplied to a load circuit as a power.
A fuel cell generally includes a plurality of power generation cells arranged in parallel to each other, which are configured so that each power generation cell is supplied with fuel gas and oxidant gas and generates electric power due to a chemical reaction occurring inside the power generation cell when the fuel gas and the oxidant gas are supplied to the power generation cell. Each of the power generation cells includes a membrane-electrode-assembly and an electrolyte-layer membrane sandwiched by the membrane-electrode-assembly. An electrode on the fuel gas side is referred to as an anode, and an electrode on the oxidant gas side is referred to as a cathode.
An output voltage of each power generation cell is adjustable in terms of, for example, a voltage value, a time for which the output voltage is held (referred to as “mechanical lifetime,” hereinafter), or the like. It is known that output voltage of a fuel cell can be adjusted in terms of various values when a power generator which includes a plurality of power generation cells in a series connection is driven (for example, see the following Patent Document 1).
A conventional technique for adjusting an output voltage of a fuel cell system is disclosed in the following Patent Document 2.
