To me, Lightroom really needs to provide a way of fitting RAW images in the catalog if you have not worked with them. In Lightroom 4, you could just drag images in the main window without having to first create a RAW library (nor having to do much of anything). In Lightroom 5, you have to go to the library and create the RAW library. What’s more, the interface for this action is just plain horrible. Ideally, in Lightroom 5, you could simply drag a RAW image off of a USB flash drive or your disk into the main window and it would automatically be added to the correct library. I am glad to see one addition to Lightroom 5 that I mentioned in my last review – drag and drop support for Lightroom 4-compatible plugins has moved into the main interface. This creates a lot of confusion for users who have been using the plugins interactively in Lightroom 4. This is yet another sign of Adobe’s commitment to make Lightroom 5 look more and more like an old school application. Lightroom 4 still has a strong allure for users who have become accustomed to it’s interface. Hopefully, future and current plugins will be easily installable in Lightroom 5. I would have hoped for even more direct integration with Adobe’s online store as well, but that’s all part of Adobe’s evolution.
