But if you've never used Photoshop before, you'll need to be patient and start with the basics. Setting up Photoshop You can launch Photoshop from the desktop, the Dock, or Applications (in the Mac) in almost any operating system. The next sections offer tips on getting started with Photoshop on a Mac. See Chapter 3 for information on using Photoshop on Windows. If you're taking a class in a computer graphics course, you should take it up on the basic concepts behind Photoshop before you start. If you're a professional graphic designer, a Photoshop handbook might be the very best place to start. Setting your preferences When you launch Photoshop, you see the Photoshop interface that looks like Figure 9-1. You can adjust the default settings for Photoshop's interface by choosing Photoshop > Preferences from the menu bar. Using the workspace The Photoshop workspace is where you do all your editing. The workspace is organized into an image area for work, a toolbox for access to the various tools, and a history area, which lists all the versions of your image as you make changes. Effect of anticoagulation therapy on outcomes in patients with myocardial infarction (from the Coronary Care Unit of the Loghman Hakim Hospital). To evaluate the effect of oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy on outcomes in myocardial infarction (MI) patients. The medical records of 1,546 patients who were admitted to Loghman Hakim Hospital's Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in 2000-2015 were retrospectively reviewed to evaluate the effect of OAC therapy on primary (death and repeat MI) and secondary (heart failure, ventricular arrhythmia and stroke) outcomes. Of the 1,546 patients, 49.4% were prescribed warfarin and 50.6% were prescribed aspirin. The mean number of days to admission from symptom onset was 239.2 ± 169.9 days (median 200.0) for all patients. Overall, primary and secondary outcomes occurred in 17.9% and 20.1% of patients, respectively. In the aspirin group, use of OAC therapy was associated with a more than twofold increased risk of death (OR = 2.0; 95% CI: 1.0-4.1, p = 0.05) and a more than fivefold increased risk of repeat MI (OR = 5.5; 95% CI: 1.8-16.8, p = 0.004). In the warfarin group, no association with primary outcomes was found (OR = 1.0; 95% CI: 0.8-1.2, p = 0.9), and no association with secondary outcomes was observed (OR = 0.9; 95% CI: 0.7-1.2, p = 0.7). OAC use was associated with more than twofold increased risk of death (OR = 2.0; 95% CI: 1.2-3.4, p = 0.006), but not with repeat MI (OR = 1.9; 95% CI: 0.7-5.1, p = 0.18) in patients with premature MI onset.
