anyways, i think i need to add something to keep the vaginal canal from being opened as much. i think a ring of elastomeric material wrapped around the vagina and cervix would be more durable and will prevent the speculum from touching the vaginal canal too much.
ive also started to think about how to build the uterus out of hard plastic. i want the vagina to connect to the cervix by a sort of hinge type of connection to prevent the vagina from "riding up" on the cervix. the problem with a hinge type connection is that it cant deform and fold. i dont know if that can be done with hard plastic though. anyway, that is where the uterus is going to come in. i made a rough tinkercad uterus model to try and make a rough estimate of how the vagina should be attached to the uterus. i think i will probably make it out of two parts. one part to hold the vagina and the other to be the womb part. the uterus shouldnt stick out past the vagina and its not really designed to be a baby part. the womb part can be connected to the cervix via a simple hinge or it can be a more complex non-hinging connection with some sort of stem that can be collapsed and expanded. the idea is that the vagina is supposed to be more or less a holder for the uterus. and theres more to come on this part of the mesh!
the other thing that i did this week was to start designing the cervix. i did a very quick sketch of how the cervix should be shaped. the problem with a standard elipsoid is that it is not as flexible as a sphere. also, the normal shape of the cervix is a bit like an horseshoe. i wanted to make a cervix that would give the vagina a bit of a "keyhole" shape, so that when the vagina is inserted, the cervix doesnt just lay flat against the vagina but is more in the shape of an arch. i think it should look something like this:
