The wxWidgets project started about 7 years ago, at a time when the Python programming language was still growing and Python programming was not as popular as it is today. Although most books on Python targeted the Win32 platform, it was clear that Python programming crossed platforms and even Win32 developers should know Python. Additionally, Python was showing some promise as a scripting language for game development. This was the right time to produce a GUI toolkit for Python. People coming from Win32 know the look-and-feel of operating system dialog boxes and windows. wxWidgets reimplemented this environment in an object-oriented, cross-platform manner.
