I'm going to assume a reboot is not needed after installing 10.5.8 because it doesnt seem to be. I only did updates to 10.5.8 and it worked fine. However, the card reader doesnt work, the external speakers dont work (some kind of a clash with the audio) and the webcam is busted (only works as a still). I tested out the netgear wireless card and it works fine and the bittorent works fine for the most part. The only thing it doesnt work with is the webcam. A quick fix for the external speakers is to use an audio switch that works with all devices in Windows and also with the system audio (if you only have ONE audio device at least). However, this is just a work around and doesnt fix the problem.
In the 10.5.7 update, the card reader doesnt work at all. A quick fix for this would be to use a USB card reader so that you could use just one card reader instead of two and still read the cards. The volume is busted, which is annoying, and the speakers appear to be the same issue as the webcam. The version of EFI that ships with 10.5.7 is version 0704 and it appears that it is not a good version for some people. If you have a Dual partition set up with both the 10.5.7 volume and the current version of EFI (0703), then I would suggest upgrading the volume to the current version of the EFI (0704). The version of EFI that ships with 10.5.8 is version 0824 (this is a bugfix) and it appears that it is the version that fixes these two issues. If you have a Dual partition set up with both the 10.5.8 volume and the current version of EFI (0823), then I would suggest upgrading the volume to the current version of the EFI (0824).
