its not often that you see reboots of classic tv shows, but this is one of those rare times. the premise is pretty simple: batman is retired from the justice league, and the city of gotham has been ravaged by crime for years. 20 years later, a new batman, terry mcginnis, is given the opportunity to become the new batman and fight crime. theres no cgi though. its all traditionally animated and genuinely gorgeous. when i say gorgeously animated, i mean it. its a stunning job. terry is a teenager with a big old bushy beard who looks a bit like frank gorshin from batman: the animated series. in fact, terry is voiced by gorshin himself. this isnt a simple story of a teenager with a wish for his own cape and cowl. this is a story of bruce wayne returning to the cape and cowl to right a serious wrong.
the first episode of batman beyond, titled, robin can be found on youtube and is available to rent or buy. it was followed by four other episodes in the first season and is also available on dvd. the episodes themselves are a little long, and not for the faint of heart. from what weve seen of the batman, theyre going to be pretty dark, though. i think it was a good move to reboot the series to give us a new batman and to give us a new era of gotham. i cant wait for more.
