Thursday, May 25, 2017 I have been struggling with a flaw in SMS, the StiX/Embedded Java based SMS application, for years. The flaw is fundamental and has not been fixed despite at least four years of customer calls to StiX support. The flaw is caused by the intercepting of a server communication request to a central SMS server by StiX. When this flaw is present in a large system, the central SMS server to which StiX sends the request will respond with an error code indicating that the request was unsuccessful. When this occurs, StiX, which is programmed to ask the central SMS server if the request was sent to the central SMS server, will process the error code and therefore not notify the user. The flaw was identified and corrected in a subsequent release of SMS. Unfortunately, SMS is a complicated system. It is not as easy as putting together a new app, a new version of an existing app, and selling it. On Monday, I finally fixed the flaw.
