Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a software architectural approach to interconnecting services and business applications, where different functional modules of the application are loosely coupled and easily replaceable. SOA focuses on an application's functionality rather than its data structures and the associated protocols. SOA allows heterogeneous network types, such as peer-to-peer, cloud computing, inter-enterprise, to interoperate. SOA based virtualization of the wireless sensor network as one of the key aspects of enabling SOA has been discussed in the work of Ma et al.[ 23 ].

The mesh is a popular type of wireless network structure. A mesh network can be organized in a number of ways including star or bus topologies with a central base station or the central hub can be a wireless sink node to which each of the sensor nodes connects. Such networks have many advantages over conventional static networks. For example, in a mesh network it is more likely that all of the nodes in the network would be able to see each other than in a star or hub based network. Thus the data quality from all nodes could be improved. Also, with the use of the mesh network each sensor node can be placed anywhere within the network. As a result, the advantage of mobility could be taken, such as the sensor node may move to reduce the overall data loss from a given area. Additionally, there is no need for a fixed communication channel between nodes such as in star- or hub-based wireless networks.

However, in a mesh network, there would be more multiple paths between sensor nodes and the wireless sink node. Hence, the sink node would need to broadcast a lot of control data packets to all of the nodes on the network. This could be done by forming the mesh network as a star or hub topology. However, such topologies would be limited in terms of the number of sensor nodes that could be connected, and mobility would be limited to one direction.




The Slotted ALOHA (SALOHA) algorithm is the basic algorithm for broadcasting in ad-hoc wireless sensor networks. SALOHA is a distributed algorithm. The nodes use the random back off scheme for transmitting the packet on the physical medium. It simply means that each node waits for a random time before transmitting the data packet and then transmits the packet in a random order. If the destination node is unable to receive the packet, then the node waits for a random time before transmitting the packet again. The packets are transmitted asynchronously, i.e., each node transmits the packets independently of other nodes. In order to transmit a message, nodes only need to know the group address of the destination, which is broadcasted in the first hello packet. The Hello Packet is an optional packet that contains the list of nodes in the neighbor list of the source and the group address of the destination node. The slotted ALOHA algorithm is shown in Figure 3. Energy.energy also incorporates a broad range of object model type functionality such as RTOS, network hardware, network operating systems, drivers, protocols, and functional representation. While Energy.energy allows for the generation of multiple existing and new kinds of networks, it is also capable of handling the complete life-cycle of new design and new functional requirements for network systems. Energy.energy can either be used as a stand-alone network simulation, or it can be used in conjunction with other external network simulation environments and development tools. 5ec8ef588b
